Ugly Perfection

So yesterday morning, before heading back to Melbourne I went for a bit of an explore on our flood ridden farm. The views are at time ridiculously beautiful. It's hard to believe that something that looks so gorgeous can be the root of such damage. But it is so. These floods are going to be a challenge to recover from, just like in the towns that are affected the damage is an expensive and devastating result of the curve ball that mother nature decided to play.

Here is a collection of the pictures I took on my exploring.
Ugly Perfection...

Unbelievable!

Sunday Summary 11/3/2012

This week I'm in love with Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars' Safe and Sound song. I just find it hauntingly beautiful and not such a typical sounding Taylor Swift song. Also after a lot more Triple J listening as having no ads is SO much better the Temporary by White Rabbits has tickled my fancy along with Can't Get Better Than This by Parachute Youth. Steam by Deep Sea Arcade is also a pretty cool track.

Thank goodness I got to go home this weekend. It was great to see all the family and such things and it was so surreal to actually see the floods for myself.

Discovery of the week, finally found the DVD of Sixteen Candles and purchased today. Have been looking for it for ages!

The week in thousands of words...

Nanna's cute 70th Cake of cupcakes.
Sunset over the floods...

Red hair and flannies...

Through my eyes...

Road closed.

That's pretty much it. Apart from the fact that I love that it's the Labour Day Long weekend!

Inside Out #003

Inside Out #003

Haven't done one of these for a while!

Friend Lamps
Lights scattered, pointing out shop signs and patches of path and road,
glowing with a slight security.
The night is dark and threatens to confuse but the balls of gold protect and provide,
strengthening confidence in those who feel their rays.
Friends are like street lamps in the dark.

Get your priorities straight...

I just find this statement quite good...

Instead of saying “I don’t have time” try saying “it’s not a priority,” and see how that feels. Often, that’s a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just don’t want to. But other things are harder. Try it: “I’m not going to edit your résumé, sweetie, because it’s not a priority.” “I don’t go to the doctor because my health is not a priority.” If these phrases don’t sit well, that’s the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don’t like how we’re spending an hour, we can choose differently.

Grizzle

A bit sad today as due to all the flooding back home it was best not to risk going back and getting stranded there. It's all getting pretty high. At this stage my family aren't likely to actually get the house flooded but I expect they won't be able to go anywhere by the end of the weekend. It's so weird to imagine it without actually getting to go home and see it all. Even with the pictures it seems so surreal. So lucky they are far from the worst affected as towns not far away are being evacuated and a lot of roads are closed. Such a grizzly day in Melbourne today too.

I've decided that I have an addictive personality. Kyle and Jackie'O were talking about it on the radio the other day. It seems to involve things that I tend to do. Once you start doing something and get into a routine you kind of can't help but continue this routine as you become addicted to it. Or at least that is my perception of it. I seem to have this problem a bit with things. Like the chocolate. Definitely classify my self as a chocoholic even if I do keep my indulgence as minimum as possible. And the gym. I think I classify as a bit of a gym junkie. My routine in general. Obsessive about many things. But oh well. I'm quite happy to be that way.

There's this new show on FOX 8 (oh the joys of having pay tv) that I've recorded the last couple of weeks and finally sat down and watched today. It's called Smash. Possibly my new favourite show! It's about this group of people putting together a musical on Marilyn Monroe and all the behind the scenes dramas. It's absolutely fantastic! Especially loving the character Karen played by Katharine McPhee and her boyfriend Dev played by Raza Jaffrey.

Praying for the flood affected.

Late rambling

Decidedly sleep is quite an inconvenience. As I attempt to get some work complete I'm struggling to stay awake though if it were possible not to need to sleep, that I wouldn't actually struggle later today because I'm going to be surviving on a few hours sleep I would happily not sleep at all.

It's flooding back home at the moment. Not my actually home but surrounding areas. It's frustrating and amazing to think that five years ago if you told us that it would be flooding now we would have laughed. I remember wondering if we would ever really get rain again as we struggled through a dry dry drought. We never thought we would be complaining about having to much rain in any near future. Yet here we are and we're just hoping there isn't to much more to come for now. Crazy! And I love how they have the news reporters wading through knee high water and then have these little kids playing in the flood waters in the background. I know as a child of course that's exactly what you want to be doing.... but isn't that one of the things they say is quite dangerous. I'm sure they say not to play in flood waters....

It's just a tad annoying though as I planned to head home this weekend but am slightly concerned about getting stuck back there! That's probably a very slim worst case scenario I suppose. So keen to go home and see the family though. After staying down last weekend I miss them too much!

Went to my first ever game of soccer last night! The Australia vs. Saudi Arabia at AAMI Park. Never been inside there before. Was a rather exciting match to watch! 24,000 spectators provided and exciting atmosphere. We weren't looking so good until the middle of the second half when Australia came back from being down 1 - 2 to scoring three goals in the space of about five minutes! It was intensely exciting!

Best get back to it....
