myStyle/$pent #001

So it's been a long time coming. Well.... a few weeks now. But I have finally put together a sort of sub blog I guess you may call it. Not sub... branch.... maybe it's a branch growing off my blog. And I have a blog tree that will soon have some other branches? Yep. I'll go with that for now. So this new branch to my blog is called myStyle/$pent which is to document and share my style and the damages in spendings with you. From clothing to decorations, my obsessions and sometimes dislikes on the items I choose to use as a form of self expression and a way to decorate my life. Basically an excuse for me to play with layout and further share my thoughts on fashion and such things.

So here it is. Drum roll please...

myStyle/$pent #001, July 2011
The beginning! Page one, the first leaf on this new branch!

1. I am totally loving leg warmers at the moment. Like totally besotted with them. So I decided to purchase a few more pairs! Makes me think of early 80s, dancers and aerobics. Especially like Alex in Flashdance. Send me to the 80s! Maybe that's why I love leg warmers so much, because I wish I was a dancer.
2. Decided I needed another hat in a different colour so I don't always have to go grey. Throw some red into the mix.
3. Was quite happy when I found JayJays had massively reduced their leather jackets. There pretty cute but I wasn't to keen to pay full price for them. Then again, I'm never keen to pay full price for just about anything. Stingey is pretty much my middle name.
4. Finally purchased a pair of what I call "combat-ty heals". And I'm quite infatuated with them. Exactly what I wanted.
5. Don't know why it's taken me so long to get some of these full length tights. It's been on the list for a while! Tick! Such a staple in my wardrobe now.
6. Was pretty happy with this cheap as skirt. Love the pattern. And the zips of course! Always loving the zips!
7. Since my uggs have fallen apart I've been slipper-less for a while. Problem solvered.

Go on and take it, take it all with you

This morning I definitely walked out the door with a smile on my face. It's the first morning I've actually walked to uni. My first day back I was told that I should accept the ride offered to me and the second one I thought I may as well take another ride since it was available. But it was so nice to walk again this morning. I realised just how much I enjoy the walk. I probably enjoy the one on my way home a little more than on the way but the are both a part of my day that I look forward to.

Yesterday morning wasn't quite as smooth as this morning. I jumped out of bed at 7.30. I was supposed to be up at about 6.30 to be ready for work comfortably. I did have alarms set... and did the whole turn it off.... "I'm sure I can afford just a few more winks". I even remember dreaming getting up just a little bit too late and then being in a hurry getting ready in that short time.... but it wasn't as little time as I actually had when I got up! I literally leapt out of bed and stood in the doorway of my room contemplating my options. I hurriedly threw on some clothes and brushed my teeth and didn't quite manage to grab breakfast before heading out the door. Don't plan on doing that one again for a while! Definitely got up to my alarm this morning!

So after this hurry out the door for work on Wednesday by the time I got home at five-ish I hit the sack intending to grab a few winks before getting up in an hour or so to have some dinner and of course I needed to watch Offspring.... luckily my aunty woke me at 10.30pm otherwise I probably would have slept right through! So I got up and had some food. Caught up on Winners and Losers from the night before and then watched the season final of Offspring, recorded from just hours before. I loved it! So glad she chose Patrick! So sweet! But then ohmygosh! Next season is going to be intense! Definitely going to miss it being on. Might have to go and get it on DVD to prevent withdrawals!

On Tuesday I went into the city with some friends. It was quite fantastic. We had some lovely Thai food which included some amazingly awesome fried rice and a rather tasty crocodile stir fry with lemongrass. Have never had crocodile before! So that was a new first. Was interesting. The meat itself looked kind of strange. And it was kind of chewy. But I liked it. After our Thai we headed off to this nice little bar/restaurant on Bourke Street. We were looking for Madame Brussels but we didn't quite find our destination... we don't think. Fantastic night anyway. Love the city. It's so pretty at night time! Only down side to the night was heading home in a taxi, got a separate on to my friend so was on my own and this cab driver was t h e   s   l   o   w    e    s    t     cab driver EVER. he told me he's only been doing it for a month. No wonder he was so slow. But seriously. Cab drivers are usually zippy. Sometimes a little scary zippy. Well this one was just slow scary. Was so relieved when it was over. Except for the extra cost of the trip because of his slowness. It really bothered me a lot.

Apart from my cold first week back has been good. Good to see everybody again. I've even decided to go a bit healthier and changed from my sugary nutri-grain to muesli. Really didn't have any patience left after drawing on Tuesday though. it was a killer of a frustrating class. Apart from that the other classes haven;t been a big stress. it's nice going to classes when they're new, no homework, not knowing what the class will involve is kind of nice. But it's only possible for it to happen once at the start of the semester. So those classes have all been used up now. New briefs. New homework. And so it all begins again! And I am genuinely happy that it is beginning all over again. It's been nice to get back to my routine. I find it so satisfying.

I've come to realise that happiness lies in even the smallest of successes, the little accomplishments of the day. Every time I finish my gym program for the day, or even just get through another ten minutes on the treadmill I feel like that is an accomplishment I can tick off my achievements for the day. I think you've got to appreciate those little accomplishments.

Anyway, just finished watching the second season of Gossip Girl before and am about to begin the third. I love Gossip Girl and I especially love the last few episodes of the second season with the flashbacks of Lily when she was younger and then totally unrelated, finally Blair and Chuck getting together.

Last Hours

So here I am about to embark on semester two. The last hours of my holidays are dwindling away. Almost perfect holidays almost gone. The only thing stopping these holidays from being quite as perfect as I would of liked them to be is this silly flu cold thing that has been around my house back home on the farm for over a month now and somehow I had managed not to get it.... until this last week. But oh well. These things can't be helped I guess.

Pretty keen for the beginning of semester two. Keen to see everyone. Get back to a routine.

Goodbye blissful holidays!

Woah I, I got a secret

It's been a while. So naturally this one is a bit chunky!

So the holidays are almost over. I feel Monday morning is going to be a slight challenge. As much as I'm keen to get back and see everyone Holidays have actually been pretty fantastic. Trekking back and forth to work and play netball has kept me busy enough that I haven't felt like I'm not doing anything. And going back to work means I've still been able to hit the gym so I don't feel like I've just wasted my holidays eating and not exercising like last time. Going back will be good though. Getting back to a good routine. I've come to realize I really depend on my routine. And I don't like it when my routine is compromised. It makes me quite grumpy actually.

Another thing that is making me quite grumpy at the moment is this horrible cough cold flu thing that I have acquired. My family has had it for aaaaaaggggggeeeessss. All holidays I've come back and forth and not gotten it.... until now. I really hope it doesn't stick around for long. I'm not going to be very functional next week with a cold like this! I just read an article in the latest issue of Frankie Magazine, #42, about Grandma's cures for the cold. So according to this article I need to consume a lot of garlic, put some onions on my feet, have lots of chicken soup and lemon and honey drinks. I strongly dislike honey. So this isn't ideal.... pity it is quite good for you. Guess you can't really substitute golden syrup....

I went shopping the other week to get my little sister a birthday present and splashed out on some CD's. I realized I haven't purchased any music for quite some time! So I spent quite some time in JB HI-FI picking out some stuff. I picked up Seeker Lover Keeper's self titled album. This is a little Australian group made up of a collaboration of three of Australia's talented songwriters Sarah Blasko, Holly Throsby and Sally Seltmann. In all honesty before hearing Even Though I'm A Woman on the radio on Triple J and investigating who might sing this tune and listening to their other songs on iTunes I hadn't really thought I'd heard of the latter two girls. Upon further research I am familiar with some of Sally's music such as Dream about Changing but i don't think I've really heard Holly's before. Sarah Blasko I have definitely heard of, perhaps my favourite song by her would be We Won't Run. Anyway, the Seeker lover Keeper album is pretty fantastic. Even though I'm a Woman and Light All My Lights are definitely my stand out favourites.

So also While in JB HI-FI there was a table of ten dollar Albums from which I grabbed Paramore's All We Know is Falling album which I've been meaning to grab for ages, and then Justin Beiber's My Worlds album for my little sister's birthday. Then The Script's Science and Faith which I was kind of excited to grab because I got to the counter with my other stuff and was told that I was able to get another one off the ten dollar table for free! Both are good. Haven't picked anything other than the obvious favourites of For the First Time, You Won't Feel a Thing, Nothing, If You Ever Come Back, Science & Faith, Dead Man Walking and Walk Away. Okay so I may have just listed more than half the album. I do quite enjoy The Script. Paramore's I don't feel I've listened to as much yet but I do enjoy Emergency and Whoa... they're all pretty good though. I got a bit excited when I was out the other night and they actually played Mysery Business!

I honestly still resort to Adele's album though. I'm infatuated!

Over the last few weeks I've watched a few movies. Another few purchases at JB HI-FI. Reckon they should just about sponsor this blog post! Damages were about $66 for two DVDs and four CDs. Anyway, I bought Charlie St Cloud and The Pursuit of Happyness. Charlie St Cloud was really good. Can't really go past a bit of Zac Efron! I was quite unsatisfied when it ended though. It was a bit confusing and I felt like there should have been more. It didn't feel like it went for that long... About a 3.5/5 And then The Pursuit of Happyness. I think I'll have to watch it again. I think I missed some little bits just from lack of concentration. But overall I thought it was quite good. A touching story. And really I just wanted to adopt will Smith's son at the age he is in the film. He is just way to cute! You can't really go past Will Smith either! 3.5/5.

Finally got a haircut today! Wow! Why didn't I get one so much sooner! I feel like it's been more than a year since I've had one! It feels so nice and neat and tidy. Feels soooooo much better. It's funny how something that you can't really feel, like a haircut, can feel so good. Fresh!

Had a big day shopping yesterday. I feel like I spent a lot of money but I don't think I actually bought anything that wasn't on sale or a special. So I guess that's ok. But I will tell you all about that in the next one. Off to get caught up on Offspring!

Pluses!

As if this isn't the coolest little radio you have ever seen!

So my little brother was drooling over one of the toy sale catalogues and telling mum all about how when he's older and moves out that he's going to buy his own Wii. Curious of what he had planned for his older life I posed him with the question of what he was going to do with himself when he moved out of home. His reply was "go to college". Think this Aussie child has played to much of the sims? I then asked him what he was going to do at "college". His reply was "pluses". I thought it was a tad bit cute really! Maybe he can be an accountant!

I have a new food obsession that has become very dominant over the past few days. Raspberry jam on toast. It is the best thing! Especially in this chilly weather. Some nice crunchy toast with a bit of butter and jam, it's just irresistible. It's almost as good as a jam donought! Simply awesome!

Watched Ramona and Beezus this weekend. As a much younger version of myself, back in the days when I had to listen to an audio story every night when I was going to bed. We used to borrow various titles from the library... some that I remember quite clearly were a few Enid Blyton stories from her Malory Towers and The twins at St Clares, Tracey Beaker - Jacquelin Wilson, Pretty Polly - Dick King Smith, Paddy's Pot of Gold - Dick King-Smith and The Exiles in Love - Hilary McKay. And then much later I recall a lot of The Princess Diaries - Meg Cabot. But back to Ramona and Beezus, Ramona Quimby was probably one of the most memorable stories. We would listen to the audio night after night until it was time for the tapes to go back to the library because they were going to be overdue. And I'm pretty satisfied with how they made the stories into a film. Joey King is a gorgeous little girl who plays Ramona quite perfectly. Selena Gomez was cast as big sister Beezus which initially I wasn't very impressed about but she was alright. A bit of Josh Duhamel never goes astray. I'm going to give it a 8/10. Definitely a good one for the younger ones.

Also watched Step Up 3. There were some fantastic dancing scenes. But the film didn't have much else going for it. I feel like there was not enough development of the characters and then stuff would happen and it just.... wasn't fantastic. It had all the cliche's in the dance movie cliche book. 5/10.

Life As We Know It was also viewed. Loved it! Always love Katherine Heigl. And I think Josh Duhamel and Katherine are pretty cute on screen together. There just seems to be the right balance of comedy and romance going on. 8/10.

Continuing to obsess over Adele's album. Pretty much the soundtrack to my mid year holidays.

Been feeling pretty rubbish today. Hopefully not coming down with something!
